This week is Juneteenth. Juneteenth, nationally celebrated on June 19, is the annual celebration of the end of slavery, due to Abraham Lincoln’s issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The celebration of Juneteenth on Greenwood started in 1989 by the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame in conjunction with the North Tulsa Heritage Foundation. Every June, the celebration features local, regional, and nationally renowned entertainers, food venues and more. This Juneteenth celebration also features a special runway fashion show.
The Green Chamber of Commerce Business District has also finally been added to the National Register of Historic Places. There will be a press conference Wednesday, June 16th,  at 10:30 in front of the Welcome Center to discuss this great news.
