This weekend in Greenwood, May 28th through May 31st, many citizens of Tulsa, important political figures, descendants, celebrities and the last survivors, gathered to remember the 100 year anniversary of the Tulsa race massacre. The high level of publicity made progress in acknowledging an unfortunate event that had been hidden from history for so long, but there is still more work to be done. Sadly, while no decision on reparations has been made, Mayor G.T. Bynum made a statement, apologizing for the city government’s role in the massacre. After the centennial, president Joe Biden visited Greenwood district. Other visitors included important figures: attorney Ben Crump and Geoffrey Standing Bear, Chief of Osage nation.
Come see the Black Wall Street Alliance walkthrough museum across the street from the welcome center to see the original Ford model T with the crank-engine mechanism, and take some selfies to picture yourself in a thriving Greenwood. Also, visit the Manhattan on Greenwood Speakeasy experience in the Black Wall Street Alliance building.
